Punch Techniques & Augmentation For Acne Scarring

Punch Techniques & Augmentation
To Clear Acne Scarring

Punch Techniques

If your acne has left you with pit, dish or hole shaped scars (similar to chicken pox scars), you have what are known as "ice pick" scars. These can be successfully removed by your dermatological surgeon using one of three techniques:

·         Punch Excision - The scar is removed, the wound closed and allowed to heal.

·         Punch Elevation - The scar is cut loose from the bottom, but not discarded. It is allowed to float up to the level of surrounding skin.

·         Punch Replacement - The scar is removed with a punch tool, and is then replaced with a skin graft, usually from behind the ear.

Your dermatologist may complete the punch work by combining it with resurfacing using with dermabrasion or laser therapy to create a smooth line.

Cost:           Approx. $50 per scar.

Augmentation

A procedure in which collagen or fatty tissue from elsewhere in the body is injected under the scar in order to bring it to surface level.

Collagen injections are temporary, and last about 6 months.
